GRX service features

Find out more about the features that make Comfone’s GRX, one of the leading GRX’s currently in the market.

DNS
Comfone GRX includes a full Domain Name Service which maps logical names to IP addresses. The DNS on the Comfone GRX is connected to the root (.gprs) DNS.

Routing
The Comfone GRX interfaces with other GPRS networks and GRXs using BGP-4 which allows dynamic routing based on Autonomous System Numbers. The GSM Association allocates the GPRS operator's network an AS-Number. The Comfone GRX routing interface is fully compliant with GSMA recommendations as laid out by the GRX working group.

Peering
Peering broadens roaming coverage even further as GRX providers interconnect their networks between themselves. Peering is required on the IP backbone network and on the MMS relay level to enable operators connected to one GRX to interwork with all operators connected to a second GRX. With peering, there is no need for operators to have either a direct commercial or technical relationship with the second GRX.

Quality of Service
Comfone GRX guarantees Quality of Service (QoS) in full compliance with appropriate GSMA rules. The QoS parameters provided for Comfone GRX are:

  • DNS availability
  • Peering availability

Class of Service
The Comfone backbone is fully MPLS enabled and offers Class of Service (CoS). An MPLS network has two main advantages for operators using data services:

  • traffic can be prioritised based on type - for example, voice traffic can have a higher priority than email traffic
  • routing can be optimised, resulting in latency reduction

If a customer requires higher traffic classes with guaranteed end-to-end quality of service, Comfone recommends enhanced access.
